Heidi and Spencer announce their separation

Is this just another publicity stunt? Because they're going to have to do something more interesting than split up if they want to bump Dennis Hopper and Gary Coleman off the mag covers this week.

Fame-hungry reality TV couple Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt have announced their separation a year after their fake wedding (which was followed up by a real one).

“Heidi is looking to move out due to all the fake bad press that Spencer controls,” Heidi's rep said in a statement. “She’s tired of it and is looking for a place and wants to focus on her acting career.”

That's right, her acting career.

A friend tells TMZ that the couple have been having problems for a while now... “It wasn't just a sudden thing.”

Which explains Heidi's tweet last Tuesday: “I am not Heidi Pratt, I am Heidi Montag.”
