Ronan's wife of 12 years, Yvonne, cottoned on after discovering text messages on his 'secret' mobile phone. The affair is believed to have been going on since October last year – around the time Ronan's bandmate Stephen Gately died unexpectedly.
33-year-old Ronan was scheduled to perform in Zurich over the weekend, but cancelled the concert to fly home to his wife and three kids.
He tells News of The World, “I'm devastated. Performing on stage at this moment was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.
“I know what I did was wrong. I feel terrible about what this has done to Yvonne. But I'm not prepared to give up on my marriage.
“I've cancelled everything for the next three weeks and I'm going to come back to Dublin to try and make this work.”
But it seems unlikely Yvonne will be willing to take him back. In her first public appearance since news of the affair broke last week, the former was photographed in Dublin without her wedding ring and looking decidedly grumpy.
