Sources tell TMZ he was checking on the welfare of his younger daughter Ali, 16, who is staying with Lindsay and has been spotted out partying with her big sis.
After speaking with the police, Ali was allowed to stay - despite Michael's claims that Lindsay had put her life in danger by travelling home from a music festival at 160kph.
Once the police had left, the tweets of outrage from Lindsay began...

Michael responded to Lindsay's tweets with a surprisingly sane tweet of his own...
Lindsay can twitter all she wants. This is about Ali and her welfare. Ali is 16 and Dina has no right allowing Ali to be in such elements.
Mummy Dina Lohan got in on the fight next...
"Michael walked into the apartment looked right at Ali and said, I'm looking for my daughter Ali, is she here? That's from Ali's lips to God's ears. He didn't even recognize his own daughter. That's what she told me he said when he walked in there and saw her."
