So You Think You Can Dance: top 20 return for Easter special

, Prev Next This week on So You Think You Can Dance: all the eliminated dancers you forgot about return to the show, giving you another opportunity to forget about them all over again!

I watch this week's episode with my mum, who's mad that I'm making her watch Dance instead of 60 Minutes (or whatever old people watch on Sunday nights) (just kidding, Mum!). She spends the entire show complaining about what she sees. I know I complain about the show a lot, but that's because I like it. My mum complains about the show because she hates it.

Mum is particularly disdainful of the horrible red puffy baby doll dress Nat Bass has donned for this episode. I have to agree that it's pretty awful:

Nat introduces the judges, who... are kind of pointless tonight. Think about it: none of the returning contestants are being purged or critiqued tonight, so what exactly are the judges supposed to do except sit around and offer meaningless nonsense?

THE TOP 20 RETURN

• Damien + Ash-Leigh return for a foxtrot choreographed by SYTYCD favourite Jason Gilkison. I miss Damien — he's cute. After the routine, Jason is unusually kind to the duo, proving that the judges have nothing insightful to say in this episode.

• Gianne + Tim (who's dressed as Steve Urkel) team up for a hip-hop routine under the guidance of Supple, whose nickname my mum rightly says is ridiculous. The routine itself is pretty boring, but I remain impressed by how amazing Tim is for a self-taught dancer.

• Stephen + Max are up next. Frankly, I never cared much for either of these two, and their dance fails to impress me. The only interesting moment is when my mum's dog barks at the television, which is an appropriate reaction.

• Emmanuel + Pania, who are a real-life couple, join forces for a hip-hop routine that's good, but not great. They're both wearing cat make-up, for no apparent reason. But it's nice for couples to do things together, right?

• Chanelle + Danny do the blondest, whitest, fake tan-iest routine ever. It's one of those lyrical contemporary dances with lots of barefoot leaping around the stage. PS, Chanelle is still gorgeous.

• Loredo + Gianne (who's doing double duties tonight) are dressed up as tribal warriors, complete with bones in their hair. Maybe I'm being a little too PC, but... isn't that kind of racist? Apparently they're meant to be Pebbles and Bam-Bam, so whatever.

• Lamb + Jesse (who?) are break-dancing tourists. While I think Jesse got a rough deal being eliminated first, this boring number doesn't really give him a chance to redeem himself.

• Penny returns to the stage. Not to dance (she's still injured), but to be on the end of one big suck-up from Nat. Jeez. I think this show embraced the Penny a little too much.

• Kat + BJ (hee, "BJ". So chuffed I get another chance to snicker at that nickname) do a routine that is notable only because she is slathered in fake tan. You can't really make it out in that photo, but her skin is darker than Tim's. She looks ridiculous.

THE TOP 4

The remaining four contestants — Amy, Ben, Charlie and Talia — finally emerge in the closing minutes of the show to do... a totally underwhelming number choreographed by Matt Lee. That over-hyped routine was not worth waiting two hours for.

"That was crap," my mother declares when it's all over. I suspect she's a little bit out of the show's target demographic...

Did you get a kick out of the Easter special... or would you have rather spent your time stuffing your face with chocolate? Have your say in the comments.

OK, the person who wrote this article needs a reality check. Some of the dances were bad, but I loved the jive by Kat and B.J (Why is that name so funny? Tad bit immature laughing at a seemingly normal name). The choreography was excellent and so what if Kat had fake tan? "The dance was notable only because she was slathered in fake tan"? Have you got nothing but criticism for these dancers? Did you maybe peel your ignorant eyes of Kats skin to see some of the amazing lifts they did in that routine? Grow up!
It's not Nat Bass 's dress that I don't like, it's Nat Bass!!!
ok i understand that you are writing for a website dedicated to gossip but i think you went over the top with what you've said in the article above you didn't mention one nice thing about any of the dancers it was all negative these dancers work soooo hard to get where they are i know maybe they cry a bit too much in the auditions but they are all fantastically amazing i'm sure most of us couldn't even attempt half the stuff they do and no its not racist what they did for Loreda and Gianne's routine they would have done the same costumes if they were white and you probaly wouldn't have said anything so your really the one being racist
wow!!!!!!!!!!!! what can i say about your program! it is my best program i ever had in my life. I never miss watching it. Well done contestants! i really like how you guys dance. I think that you are the best dancers in the world. What a great and intelligent judges! i like the way you speak.you are my best judges for all time.
First up, I think the dress is OK, not amazing but Nat totally pulls it off...although her very orange fake tan may make the colour of the dress look a little yuck! I agree with the other comments - dancers are great but coreography is 'zzzzzz' boring! I am over Bonnie too, she is annoyingly nice and never really seems to know what the hell she is even talking about!!! I hope either Amy, Charli or Ben wins...if I see Thalia do her little 'I am so cute by sticking my tongue through my teeth' thing again I am going to go nuts!
I agree with Daizy. The dancers are great...the choreography sucks! Maybe they should have a So You think you can Choreograph competition and actually find good ones. I get really annoyed when the judges are happy to rip into the dancers but will never say how bad the choreography is. I think the most they've said to the dancers is 'you did the best with what you were given.'
I think the dancers are all talented, but some of the dances leave me gaping, with " what was that " then the judges say how wonderful it was and I am so confused, I generally tune in when it is about to announce those leaving and then go on to what I was watching. As for the finals...it is a lot of rubbish till they announce the winner, whether it is idol or S.Y.T.Y.C.D
