So You Think You Can Dance: the top 6 have neat tricks!

Anyway, Nat Bass is wearing a long, flowy dress that looks like a shower curtain pinched from the set of Underbelly. She chats with the judges, who offer their usual blather about how great all the dancers are, blah blah, how difficult it is to see anyone go, whatever.

THE BOYS

The three remaining boys team up for a hip-hop number where they're dressed as both cops and robbers: for example, the front of Ben's outfit is a police uniform, but the back is stripy burglar get-up. Honestly, the costumes are the most notable aspect of this routine — it's fine, but hardly a stand-out. Bonnie gushes that Ben looks like a policeman (um, maybe because he's dressed as a policeman?), while Jason declares that Charlie was strongest and BJ (hee, "BJ") weakest.

TALIA + BJ

They dance... a cute but silly jazz routine that kind of reminds me of the opening scene from Austin Powers, dressed in cute but silly '40s swimsuits; later, they dance lyrical hip-hop that earns a standing ovation and praise as "the best routine of the series". Jeez, it was good... but that good?

But more importantly... In their first dance BJ almost drops Talia during a lift, and during the judges' verdicts Talia fibs and tells them she wasn't worried about her safety. Jason scolds her for lying: "This is reality television, give us the truth". HAHAHA! Oh, Jason — as if reality TV has ever been about the truth.

KAT + CHARLIE

They dance... firstly a "ghetto hip-hop" routine where they play two clubbers who stumble across a magic box of money, or something. It's fun, and I like it, but they're hardly pushing themselves. They return for a tango, choreographed by Jason Gilkison, and it's meant to be all romantic but unfortunately Charlie can never manage anything more than a "just friends" vibe with any of the girls.

But more importantly... Jason comments after the first dance that Kat has a habit of sticking her tongue out while she's dancing. Charlie "jokes" that she's a lizard... and not one single person in the audience laughs. Aaaaawkward. How embarrassing for him, but then again, that was a monstrously unfunny joke.

AMY + BEN

They dance... an extremely dramatic and intense pasa doble, with him playing a shirtless matador and her playing his sexy bull (I think? It's kind of hard to tell who is meant to be playing what). As we learned a few weeks ago, dramatic and intense pasa dobles never go down well, and Jason doesn't care for it. Later they do a contemporary/jazz routine, portraying a couple on the verge of divorce, which the judges agree is their best dance of the night.

But more importantly... after the pasa doble, which Ben dances sans shirt, Matt comments that generally he finds himself more drawn to Amy, but this time he found himself more drawn to Ben. He can't quite put his finger on why... but I suspect it has something to do with Ben's unclad chest. Just sayin'.

THE GIRLS

Fortunately there's no hoochiness this week, though this is still one raunchy routine: the girls are dressed as "tired old hookers" (Matt's words) from Cabaret, and it's strong and feisty. The judges love Talia the most (she is indeed fantastic), praise Amy, but diss Kat for being the weakest of the three. Poor Kat — she looks disappointed, but the judges have a point.

Elimination predictions: it seems obvious that Kat and BJ will go — both were in the bottom four last week — but the show might yet have a few surprises up its sleeve.
