Uh, "Bye Good" to you too, Joaquin Phoenix

Holding his fists out to cameras, he'd written the words "good" and "bye!" on his fingers. But... the wrong way around.

The 34-year-old recently said he would be hanging up his acting boots to pursue a career in music. Maybe "Bye! Good" is the name of his upcoming album?

The NY Post report that Joaquin was a bit worse for wear at the Paul Newman benefit he attended last week, when he announced he was done with acting. Apparently he walked out in the middle of a performance, and "wobbled back in a bit later, but it was odd.

"He was slurring his words and was unsteady on his feet," said their source.

Here is Joaquin breaking the news of his retirement at the benefit - not the most pleasant of exchanges, was it:

Joaquin's rep reckons everything is all good. "He just wants to focus on music, and he'll be at the screening of his film 'Two Lovers' on Saturday night in LA, and he's directed a number of music videos over the past couple of years."

He taught himself guitar and sang his own parts in Walk The Line - which he scored an Oscar nomination for.
