First look: the American Kath & Kim!

 3/07/2008 8:49:00 AM, Sam Prev Next The first pictures from the US adaptation of Kath & Kim have appeared on the internet, starring American actresses Molly Shannon and Selma Blair in the roles made famous by Australian comediennes Jane Turner and Gina Riley. Take a look:

Shannon's Kath's blonde hair and tight, daggy clothes are spot-on, but I'm not too sure about Blair's Kim... she doesn't look fat or obnoxious enough!

What do you think of America's Kath and Kim... and can they ever hope to match up to the Australian originals?

I've watched it every time it came on the TV here and wasn't impressed. Couldn't they have just used a different name for the show instead of embarrassing the original? My thoughts? This is a uniquely Australian show. If America wanna make their own version, either do it right or don't do it at all. Create a show with a different name at least. Damn! Aussie's rule!!
Everyone from Australia is like, oh american's stole Kath and Kim... well lets see who sold the rights to the Kath and Kim trademark... Gena Riley and Jane Turner sold it! By the way I saw the Australian version it sucked! I think you idiots should just suck it up!
The American Version of KATH AND KIM is, (politely) CRAP!!!! I really can't believe how poor it is. Really did the Americans think they could be funny? Our Foxy ladies are the Sh*t. The Americans aren't even funny its just stupid!
Unlike other places, in America we prefer our *** to be good looking... this explains why Selma is neither fat nor homely like the original Kim.
OMG the original version is so much better. The American 1 is just a redo and dosn't even come close to the original version!!

This was right up there with poking my eye with a hot poker. It was extremley painful to watch, I kept watching incase it got better, but it didn't. I will not be tuning in next week. Channel 7 take it off and put the real hornbags on.
The episode wasn't bad at all. It just has a lot of very American pop-culture references that make it accessible to US audiences, which is as it should be. It's from a US-centric point of view after all, and there's nothing wrong with that.
I just watched the first episode on 7. I have to say that it just didn't cut it. I know it's a different show to the original and it had to be changed for the Americans but in the translation it has lost that spark, sarcasm, tounge-in-cheek irony that made it so great and funny. I know Jane and Gina are over there directing it but it just felt like it was stripped of the sarcasm and with and dumbed down so that the Americans would understand it. What's the point of any version of Kath and Kim if it isn't sarcastic and ironic?
NOTHING, can beat the australian version of kath and kim its so funny but the american version is shocking its so crap the kim isnt even fat she is really skinny and not very good actor, and whats with the names and whats with no frizzy perm thats were its at, molly shannon has done way better films, i mean its good for the americans if they like it they prob think ours is crap casue they dont get our aussie slang, but in my opinion nothing will ever beat the aussie version and if any americans that have a good sence of humour and aussie slang lol why dnt u sit down and watch the aussie series
