Don’t get on the wrong side of One Direction unless you want to experience the wrath of millions of 1D fans.
British journalist Piers Morgan learned this hard way on Twitter last night, when he criticised 1D heartthrob Harry Styles’ favourite sports star, David Beckham.
"No serious top flight team would sign Beckham for football reasons anymore he should retire gracefully,” said Piers of Beckham’s career as of late.
The innocuous tweet sparked a playfully defensive reply from Harry: "David Beckham is my hero. [Ben] Winston is second in line."
Never one to miss a good one-liner, "Is that because he always runs in one direction?" Piers replied.
Uh-oh. And so began a mock-fight across twitter that resulted in a globally-trending hashtag “#PiersMorganIsSmelly” and a barrage of tweets from riled-up 1D fans directed at Piers.
"Now got roughly 25 million One Directioners abusing me many thanks @Harry_Styles @Real_Liam_Payne @Louis_Tomlinson," Piers tweeted.
The incident did have a silver lining for Piers, who gained thousands of Twitter followers after the exchange. The fake Twitter spat goes to show just how powerful the One Direction family really is. Look out, world!
