Family tree research site Ancestry.com dug up the histories of the three famous Canadians only to find out that they are distant cousins, sharing a connection that dates back to Quebec's earliest settlers.
Confused? Don't be the website produced a family tree explaining just how Justin, Ryan and Avril share a bloodline (scroll down to see). It so happens that Justin is also related to Celine Dion, through 17th century ancestors who moved from France to Quebec. That makes them 10th cousins, three times removed.
While Ancestry.com insists that such a discovery is "rare", TheFIX asked Heather Garnsey, executive officer of the Society of Australian Genealogists, if the shared relations are really that extraordinary.
"For the number of people involved, it may not be that unusual," Garnsey said.
"Every family is different, and also every background is different, so if all of these people came from the same part of the world, the chances of them being related is higher of course."
By that logic, the smaller the population, the likelier chance people will be related.
"You've got a big pool of people who are going to be your cousin so that means you could have thousands of cousins," Garnsey explained.
"A lot of Australians are actually related to each other. So, as always is in a small population like that, and Quebec was probably not that different, the chances that people would be related is pretty high."
Hear that folks you too could be related to anyone from Nicole Kidman to Kyle Sandilands. Or Justin Bieber for that matter, if you happen to hail from Quebec or France.
