Alec Baldwin experienced a bit of not-so-divine intervention while trying to be the centre of attention at his local church recently.
The hot-tempered 30 Rock star was giving one of his regular readings from the pulpit at the Most Holy Trinity Parish in East Hampton, New York when a group of church-goers decided to protest against his spotlight-hogging ways.
"Alec loves to be the centre of attention and often reads from the pulpit, which really annoys some in the congregation," a source told the New York Post.
"It is so bad that, one recent Sunday, he went up to read, and part of the congregation stood and rudely turned their backs on him."
Holy moly, that doesn't sound like godly behaviour!
The 54-year-old actor is known to give plenty of money to the town, but as the source revealed, "there are people who just don't like him".
"He has a need for attention and shows up at every event. When people go to the church, they don't want to see the movie star up there," the source added.
But that wasn't necessarily the issue. The Alec-haters were Republicans, another source claimed, who weren't fans of the avowed Democrat's liberal views on issues like gay marriage and gun control.
The church's reverend Donald Hanson had no bad words to say about Alec.
"I was told that [the back-turning incident] happened, but I did not personally witness it, as another priest was saying the Mass," Hanson told the NY Post.
"I am not going to comment, as I wasn't there."
Alec's rep said he "was focused on the prayers, so he has no way of knowing if this happened. But does someone violating the sanctity of a church even deserve a response?"
Back in April, Alec revealed he "would love to" get into politics.
"Let's see what things are like in 2014 [after 30 Rock ends] and maybe I can find some opportunity," Alec told Bloomberg News.
Alec married yoga instructor Hilaria Thomas, 28, in June.
