The actor/comedian had nothing but praise for his ex-wife whilst chatting to Ellen DeGeneres about his failed 14-month marriage.
"I still love her [Katy] as a human being but sometimes when you're in a relationship I suppose it doesn't work out, does it?" said Russell.
"That doesn't mean I regret it or anything. I was very happy to be married with her."
Russell filed for divorce in December last year after several months of speculation and reported fighting.
Russell’s dealings with his ex since then have been pleasant and friendly, with Russell refusing to take the half of Katy’s money he was entitled to.
"You can't absolutely make everything the way you want it to be in life, sometimes things are just different," Russell told Ellen.
"She's such a lovely human being."
