The 25-year-old was sentenced to 360 hours community service earlier this year after stealing a gold necklace from a jewellery store, but has only completed three hours.
The actress was thrown out of the community service program at the Downtown Women's Centre after repeatedly failing to show up.
Judge Stephanie Sautner said in an L.A. court yesterday that Lindsay was completely responsible for her being thrown out and could now face as much as a year-and-a-half jail time for violating the terms of her probation.
The Judge also doubted that Lindsay attended court-ordered sessions with her psychologist.
The Mean Girls star is now understood to have been released from custody after posting a $100,000 bail.
She will appear before the court again on November 2, before which time the Judge ordered she must complete 16 hours community service at the morgue.
