Apparently their first wedding didn't drum up enough money and publicity, because after eloping in the States earlier this year the newly-weds have thrown a bells and whistles 'wedding blessing' at the weekend in England so that the TV cameras friends and family could get in on their second big day.
But after all the perfect planning (the bridal gown, celebrity guests, a replica A-Team van as the wedding car and a bed sheet strung up in front of the church to protect ITV2's exclusive rights to the ceremony) things turned violent when Katie's security guards tried to prevent rogue photographers from peeking through the sheet with their camera lenses.
Police were called to the scene after security manhandled several photographers, wrestling one man to the ground and holding him in a head lock.
“We have been advised of an alleged assault outside the church which we are currently looking in to,” a local police officer confirmed.
Luckily Katie and Alex were able to get on with the TV shoot wedding ceremony without any more distractions and the pair got hitched without another hitch.
“[Katie] is understandably shaken and upset by the actions of these people but is now looking to enjoy the rest of her day with her close friends and family,” a spokesperson for Katie said at the time.
The couple's big day will air on the new ITV reality show Alex and Katie: For Better For Worse in a few weeks time.
