When Chastity Bono announced her decision last week to undergo a sex change her mum Cher didn't make any comment on the controversial news. But now the singer has come out in support of her new son, saying nothing could change her love for her child.

"Chaz is embarking on a difficult journey, but one that I will support," Cher says in a statement released today. "I respect the courage it takes to go through this transition in the glare of public scrutiny.
"Although I may not understand, I will strive to be understanding. The one thing that will never change is my abiding love for my child."
Having Cher for a mum has got to be a plus when it comes to switching genders… after all, what's a sex change when your mum already looks like a drag queen?
But seriously, hats off to you Cher. You're a great mum!
