Boy George 'too fat' to assault male escort

Lawyers will try anything to get a defendant off the hook. We know, we watch Law and Order. But Boy George's lawyer has really gone out on a limb with his defence tactics in the singer's assault trial. He claims the 47-year-old is too fat to have been able to overpower his victim.

Boy George, who's real name is George O'Dowd, is accused of handcuffing 29-year-old male escort Audun Carlsen and beating him with a chain. But his lawyer says a man as plump as George couldn't possibly have managed to do that.

"With the greatest of respect to George O'Dowd, he is not someone you could describe as terribly fit," Adrian Waterman QC told the jury. "He has put on a few pounds since the '80s. He is not going to be a match for Audun Carlsen."

Despite this bizarre argument (if he's so fat surely he could have used his bodyweight for leverage?) Boy George and his legal team aren't denying that he handcuffed Carlsen, they're just claiming he did it with good reason — because he caught the male escort tampering with his laptop and suspected him of uploading erotic photos of George to a gay website.

The jury have now retired to consider their verdict. Oh to be a fly on the wall…
