In a candid interview that just aired in the US, the singer admits she still loves her ex-boyfriend, despite the extreme violence that ended their relationship in 2009.
"We've been working on our friendship again and now we're very, very close friends," Rihanna tells Oprah.
"We've built a trust. We love each other and we probably always will."
Asked if they've started dating again, Rihanna insists, "No. He's in a relationship. I'm single. But we have maintained a very close friendship ever since the restraining order was dropped."
You can almost see Oprah biting her tongue as she fights the urge to impart Oprah-like advice, but she holds it in as Rihanna drops the bombshell, "I still love him … I think he was the love of my life."
